City police are in the lookout of those who run drug cartels primarily for young students. The fact that the drug threat is widespread in the region is evidenced by the fact that 517 drug smugglers were arrested by  police in two years. 
 
Under the jurisdiction of the City Commission, 189 cases were registered  and 354 were arrested in 2020. In  2021, 328 cases were registered and 495 were arrested. In these 189 cases, 203.964 kg of cannabis, 62 grams of MDMA, 26.850 grams of cannabis oil, 10 LSD leaves and 103 grams of MDMA powder were confiscated.

In  328 cases in 2021, 334.383 grams of cannabis, 313 grams of MDMA, 21 grams of cocaine, 750 grams of heroin and 840 grams of LSD were seized. The value of these medicines was estimated at 1.26 crores.
 
So far, police investigations have shown that  students are the main target of  traffickers and that the city, with its very large student population, is a favorable market for drug dealers. According to police, some people can buy drugs online. Drug rackets are widespread in medical schools and vocational schools. Police have already organized a parade of suspected drug cases to stop substance abuse. Police laid the groundwork for the problem and sought to arrest all involved, said Deputy Police Secretary Hariram Shanker of City Law and Order.
